Nobody sets up a charity to build a website ….

You set up your organisation to support people in your community and create positive change in areas that you care about. Digital technologies have the potential to help you to do that at greater scale and for a wider range of people.- but where do you start? You may have limited experience within your team in this area and you are always busy delivering your services. There is lots of advice out there but very little hands-on support to make it happen.

That’s where we can help - understanding your technical challenges and delivering digital solutions to support you in maximising the impact your organisation can have. Our community of skilled technology volunteers will work with you to understand the problems and challenges you face daily. There are many ways in which technology can help you deliver the services you offer to the community. We can work with you to explain these and to deliver practical, working solutions that will help you every day in the work that you do.

We have worked with hundreds of charities across the U.K. on a wide range of projects. Their stories are inspiring and we have captured examples of our work with some of them in our case studies that you can see here.

In working on these projects we have seen that there are often similar problems that are experienced by third sector organisations across the U.K. and areas where they ask for help. Recognising this, we aim to identify opportunities to turn the output of individual projects into reusable solutions. We already have a number of solutions ready for you to use - learn more here.

What type of projects can you help with?

We are asked to help charities in a variety of different ways. Some examples include:

  1. Please can you review our website?

  2. We need a website as we only have a Facebook page

  3. Please can you help us manage our supporters, volunteers better

  4. We need help with Microsoft 365 and other commercial software solutions

  5. We need an app

  6. We want to understand how we can use technology better

  7. We’d like to use data to understand better the community we serve

Some of these may resonate with you or you may have different challenges - in either case, don’t worry about how technology can help you, that’s our job - please do get in touch.

What do I need to do?

Any project will need your time and attention. We need you to work with us to help us understand the problem and once the project is underway, we ask for regular meetings to ensure that the volunteers can progress the work with you. When the solution has been delivered, we need you to test it and then to make sure it is adopted within your organisation. We do work flexibly with you but please just make sure you have the time to do the work.

How much time does a project take ?

Every project is different but we would recommend that you set a target end date that works for you - that way, everyone knows what is expected and when. It is often useful to have websites ready for events or campaigns so think about when you would need the work done by.

Can we talk to you about multiple projects?

Yes - of course. We often get multiple project requests from charities. Our approach is to start with a pilot project so that you understand the work involved and we have a very well defined outcome. From here it is easier to go on to a later phase of work. Often the subsequent projects will be picked up by other volunteers but we will take care of any handovers that need to be done.
